At 4PM, Black Mountain Symphony takes the stage to close out the festival with a powerful and unforgettable set. Hailing from the hill country near Albany, this dynamic six-piece band delivers a genre-blending mix of progressive folk, weaving together elements of classical, rock, and more. Known for their passionate songwriting and high-energy performances, they promise a grand finale that’s as bold as it is moving.
Preceding them, Northern Borne will be kicking off the festivities from 10AM to 1PM, to then be followed by the Hilltown Ramblers from 1PM to 4PM.

At 1 PM, the Hilltown Ramblers will take the stage, bringing their signature “northern blend” of folksy bluegrass to life. Known for their rich harmonies and toe-tapping rhythms, this talented group offers a vibrant mix of traditional classics and modern bluegrass favorites. Whether you’re a longtime fan of the genre or simply love live acoustic music, their performance promises something for everyone, the Hilltown Ramblers will keep the crowd entertained and engaged until their set wraps up at 4 PM.

Formed by Sarah Babushkin (guitar, lead vocals) and John Wensley (banjo, dobro), Northern Borne crafts songs rooted in local stories and traditions, delivering heartfelt originals and reimagined classics with edge and soul.
Following them, the Hilltown Ramblers will be performing from 1 PM to 4 PM, keeping the music going with their lively set. Then, closing out the day from 4 PM to 7 PM, Black Mountain Symphony will bring the festival to a high-energy finish!

Sweet & Sar Presents: An Intimate Acoustic Night Join us for Sweet & Sar’s very first live music event, featuring three incredible local bands! Our cozy Art and Yoga studio is curating an unforgettable evening with performances by Kate and Dad, The Big Bong Theory, and Home Visitor. Enjoy an eclectic mix of covers and originals that blend folk, anti-folk, punk, grunge, and country vibes. Help us make these talented artists feel right at home as they fill our studio with music and community spirit.
We end our 2024 season with a bang – come help us raise a model barn to learn how post & beam buildings like Old Fort Johnson are built. Barn raisings begin at 11:30 and 2:30. We’ll also be making fresh apple cider and baking goodies in the outdoor bake oven all day long. Admission is by donation – all the money raised today will go towards our match for a grant to replace our roof next year.

The Landis Arboretum (opens in a new tab) is hosting Star Parties (opens in a new tab) on Saturday and Sunday. View the stars and planets in Landis’ dark skies with members of the Albany Area Amateur Astronomers. A variety of telescopes will be set up for viewing the heavens, revealing nebulae, star clusters, galaxies, double stars, planets, and other celestial objects. Guests of all ages are always welcome. Saturday evening, the Glen Conservancy Hall (opens in a new tab) features Guy Davis, Ambassador of the Blues (opens in a new tab) . Guy Davis has spent his musical life carrying his message of the blues around the world, from the Equator to the Arctic Circle his work as an actor, author, and music teacher earmark him as a renaissance man of the blues. Join the fun in the hamlet of Glen for a very special performance by Guy as he shares his favorite songs and stories and brings the Blues to downtown Glen.

This weekend we will reach midpoint with peak coming within the next couple of weeks. There is still a lot of green in some locations but more color is showing through each day. Leaves that changed early are starting to shed.
Erie Canalway Trail
On Saturday, the Schoharie River Center (opens in a new tab) will host its first ever “Hammer In” welcoming both blacksmiths and the general public to an informal gathering. Blacksmiths are welcome to attend to share techniques and skills with other blacksmiths and the public is invited to meet the blacksmiths and learn about this ancient craft. The Schoharie River Center has a newly constructed, timber-framed, blacksmith shop and all are welcome to celebrate.
Saturday and Sunday, is the 2019 Indigenous Peoples Weekend (opens in a new tab) at Saint Kateri Shrine (opens in a new tab) . Tom Porter will present “The Journey from Birth to Death: Native American Wisdom on Healing from Trauma”: learn from Mohawk Elder Tom Porter how the beliefs and customs related to death and loss can help in the journey to comfort and healing. Stay for Native Mass, featuring music by the Akwesasne Choir, including an Opening Prayer of Thanksgiving and smudging ceremony.

More color is emerging and the midpoint of the season is approaching. As the weather becomes more fall-like peak season will be here soon.
The weekend is full of activities across the county. The Ames Museum (opens in a new tab) will be open on Saturday. On the National Registry of Historic Places, the museum collection encompasses life in the smallest incorporated village of New York State along with the surrounding areas and local businesses.
The 28th Hagaman Art Show (opens in a new tab) will be held on Saturday and Sunday from 12-4pm at Pawling Hall, 86 Pawling Street. Many area artists will be displaying their works. There is no admission charge.

The annual Garden Bug Fall Festival (opens in a new tab) will have a variety of agricultural products and fall decor available for purchase: mums, pumpkins, indian corn, bows, hay bales, corn stalks, and more. Vendors and crafters will be on hand both Saturday and Sunday. Music, bounce house, cider donuts, wagon rides, car cruise-in (Saturday only beginning at noon), food and gifts are all available.
