Elves Day Out
December 7
This annual Christmas-themed celebration commences when Santa and his elves take to the streets of Canajoharie on the first Saturday of December. Festivities include tons of kids’ activities, music, food and the Ugly Sweater 5K run.
The historic river community of Canajoharie and its quaint downtown offer the perfect backdrop for the popular day that draws hundreds of families for events like “Storytime with Mrs. Claus,” a scavenger hunt, and arts and crafts for kids.
Montgomery County Kayak-a-thon
August 24
The Kayak-a-thon is the perfect way for paddlers to close out the summer. Upward of 50 kayakers, canoers and paddleboarders enjoy this day-long event that takes them on a five-mile journey along the Mohawk River each August.
The leisurely cruise past the historic river communities of St. Johnsville, Fort Plain, Canajoharie and Fonda concludes with a special event for participants that includes a “Rubber Duck Race” for the community.
Burbine Disc Golf Tournament
October 19
The disc golf course at Burbine Forest in Sprakers is a popular playground for players of all skill levels, yet it’s challenging enough to host the Blues at Burbine and Stockyard Open tournaments each year. These Professional Disc Golf Association-sanctioned events are a testament to the quality of the course.
Winding through a mature hardwood forest and including a water feature, the 18-hole course is available to play most of the year. The two-mile loop also makes it a great hiking spot.
Riverlink Park Events
The hub for civic celebrations is beautiful Riverlink Park in the city of Amsterdam. The Summer Concert Series highlights the lineup of events at this scenic waterfront spot. The park is a popular spot for locals and visitors alike, who can also discover history and art along the Mohawk Valley Gateway Overlook pedestrian bridge that spans the mighty Mohawk River.
