“Topography and Transportation in the Northern Department” with Kayla Whitehouse

Schuyler Mansion’s own Kayla Whitehouse will offer this presentation, “Topography and Transportation in the Northern Department.”
Major General Philip Schuyler was in command of the Northern Department of the Continental Army from 1775 until his resignation in 1778. A skilled planner and logistician, Schuyler focused much of these early years of the Revolutionary War on supplying the Northern Department with troops and provisions. One of Schuyler’s greatest skills that helped him in this work was his knowledge of the local environment. This presentation will examine historical maps and letters to explore the different ways in which the natural environment affected the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War, with a focus on the Northern Department under the command of Major General Philip Schuyler.
This program is free and open to the public. Held inside the Enders House on Schoharie Street, adjacent to our Visitor Center/Museum.
