Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site will be hosting a Work the Walk program in recognition of National Responsible Dog Ownership Day on Saturday, September 16th starting at 10am. This program is in partnership with Run By Dogs, a local dogsledding and dog training business.
Bring your well-mannered dog and come out to the Visitor Center to watch or be a part of “Work the Walk” and stick around for a Q&A session with dog trainer, Kate Walrath. The focus of the training is on how to use energy and intention as well as socialization, leadership, and confidence building for your pet. Also covered is the use of equipment and training tools such as a proper collar, leash and correct forms of praise.
All dogs must be leased but not a flexi or retractable leash. Work the Walk is a regular Saturday morning structured class focusing on all basic obedience and any questions in between. This class is used for continuing education for our graduates of formal training, not as a starter class. The exception is for this special program with Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site
What to bring to class: 20′ leash for recall, shorter leash for walks. No flexi leashes or flip flops. Free for the public, however a suggested donation of $5 would be appreciated.
Run By Dogs is a professional company serving people and their dogs. They offer family dog training, AKC Certification and STAR Puppies Certification, dog sledding excursions, educational programs and boarding. They welcome all dogs to their training center- from puppies to nervous, insecure and aggressive dogs who need extensive education. For training our goal is to teach behavior, energy, intention, leadership, how and when to praise and correct behaviors, and how to positively advocate for your dog so they can make awesome choices.
