SUMMARY:"Loyalists in Tryon County: Tales from the Records"
DESCRIPTION:Here in the Mohawk Valley the American Revolution was a Civil War where families and neighbors were divided by their choices. The Johnson family and many of their tenants and business partners stayed loyal to the British Crown\, while others followed the lead of the Tryon County Committee of Safety. Local historian Peter Betz shares the stories of local Loyalists\, ordinary folks caught in the middle as colonial resentments turned to rebellion 250 years ago. Their farms were lost and many of them moved to Canada. The presentation will follow a brief business program and annual meeting of the Montgomery County Historical Society in the front parlor of Old Fort Johnson. All are welcome to attend.

SUMMARY:Caroga Lake Music Festival on Tour
DESCRIPTION:Internationally acclaimed Resident Artists from the Caroga Lake Music Festival – Eddie Barbash\, Duncan Wickel and the KASA Quartet – come to Old Fort Johnson for a lawn concert celebrating fiddle and folk music with new twists. Saxophonist Eddie Barbash has performed at venues and jazz festivals around the world\, collaborating with musicians in many styles: bluegrass\, indie rock\, grandma’s favorite tunes and classical standards. Known for his chameleon-like qualities on the fiddle\, cello\, and other stringed instruments\, Duncan Wickel has performed at Carnegie Hall\, The Lincoln and Kennedy Centers\, and venues in over 22 countries (so far.) The KASA Quartet (Andy Liang\, Aaron Schwartz\, Stephanie Price-Wong and Kyle Price) curate fresh\, innovative\, genre-defying performances that fuse the classical repertoire with favorites of the jazz\, musical theater\, folk and pop standards in original arrangements and transcriptions. Expect an evening of memorable performances that span musical genres and styles.\nThe acclaimed Caroga Lake Music Festival is celebrating 20 years of performances at Sherman’s Park in Fulton County this year\, bringing musicians from all over the world for their summer season on site and on tour to nearby communities. Saratoga Arts made this program possible at Old Fort Johnson through the Community Arts Regrant Program\, funded by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.\nFree admission\, donations towards ongoing restoration of Old Fort Johnson are always appreciated!
